Ganoderma lingzhi

The beloved Reishi is one of the oldest recorded medicinal mushrooms. Contemporary quantitative analysis has confirmed ancient folklore, which exalts the Reishi as the "mushroom of immortality," bringing immune support and overall vitality to those who partake of its many medicines.

A varnished woody conk, G. lingzhi grows well on a variety of sterilized or pasteurized hardwood substrates. A versatile commercial strain from China, this G. lingzhi responds well to varying growth parameters, producing broad, fanning conks in an oxygen-rich atmosphere and tall, spindly antlers if maintained in a high-CO2, low-light environment.

Mushrooms in the Ganoderma family are too tough to eat, and are usually dried, powdered and used in tea. In recent years they have become popular candidates for tinctures and spagyrics. The high-tensile mycelium also make this a fantastic candidate for myco-materials projects.
